Mountaintop Experience

img_1962

He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals his thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth– the LORD God Almighty is his name. Amos 4:13

A mountaintop experience. What exactly does that mean? I discovered a glimpse of it on a recent vacation to Alaska.

It’s God speaking through the beauty of nature, unexpected encounters and leading to paths less taken.

It’s the secrets that each petal of a rose tells as it opens. It’s the sweet scent of fir trees as you traverse in the middle of the forest. It’s a lake painted with lily pads where dragonflies dance. It’s a mountaintop that shines like silver as the sun touches its peak. It’s the writer who tries to describe what she sees and feels, but mere words cannot express what her eyes behold and her heart feels.

Have you ever had a mountaintop encounter—one that overwhelms you with God’s nearness? I pray that each of you experiences this flow of joy and peace that surpasses any other human experience. God’s presence is all around us. And the real beauty of it is—you don’t have to be on a mountaintop to be astounded by God’s grace and mercy.
